WHAT’S ON / NOVEMBER 2026

What’s on in Rivington and Chorley this November

Santa walks, Christmas craft markets, fireworks and festive lights. November is a lovely time to stay near Rivington.

The leaves are turning, the evenings are drawing in and the local calendar fills up quickly. Here’s what’s happening near The Greens this November, from a hillside full of Santas to twinkling lights in Chorley town centre.

The big Santa walk, Saturday 14 November

One of our favourite days of the year. Hundreds of walkers pull on Santa suits and head from Chorley up to Rivington, all raising money for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley. That’s us in the photo above, waving on the path up to the Pigeon Tower on Rivington Pike last year.

Whether you’re walking or just cheering everyone on, it’s a brilliant atmosphere and a great excuse for a weekend away. Check Derian House’s website for the details and how to sign up.

Markets and events in Rivington

Rivington Chapel Christmas Craft Market, Saturday 21 November and Saturday 28 November. Held in the chapel and the Village Green Tea Room, it’s a good place to find handmade gifts and get into the Christmas spirit.

Scenic Rivington walk with Abigail’s Trails, Sunday 8 November, 9:30am to 2pm. A guided walk starting near Great House Barn, ideal if you’d like someone else to lead the way.

Rivington Parish Church annual leaf clearance, Sunday 22 November. A community volunteer day helping to look after the church and its grounds.

Nearby in Chorley

Light up Astley, Friday 6 November. A bonfire, fireworks and lights in Astley Park.

The Longest Yarn exhibition, 14 November to 2 December. Local history told through textile art.

Chorley Christmas lights switch-on and market, Sunday 22 November. Festive celebrations and market stalls in town, and a nice way to round off a weekend in the area.

Make a weekend of it

The Greens is close to both Rivington and Chorley, so it’s easy to fit in a market, a walk up the Pike and an evening at a local pub. Have a look at our local walks and pubs and food guides to plan the rest of your stay.

Dates and times can change, so check with the organisers before you go. Then ask about dates for November.
